Super Computer: RTX2080 on Lenovo System x3650 m5

Hi Everyone, I decided to write this blog as I find no available resources on the internet on how this Video Card installs and works on Lenovo x3650 m5, So it might help the others.

The Specification of the Super Computer:

  • Server Lenovo x3650 m5
  • Two Processor – Intel(R) Xeon(r) CPU E5-2640 v4 @ 2.40GHZ 10core/20threads
  • 128 Gb of RAM (64Gb for Processor 1, 64Gb for Processor 2)
  • 6Tb of HDD Raid 5 (8 Disk Drives, 1TB each Drive, tolerable at least 2 disk failure)
  • 200Gb of SSD Drive Raid 1

The Card comes with a 6Pin Male to 2x4Pin Female Molex and a 8Pin Male to 2x4Pin.

This 6pin and 8pin connector are needed to connect to our Motherboard, in a common desktop computer it it very easy to connect, but since we are using a server, those connectors doesn’t fit on it.

There are two available ports that has label for GPU on the motherboard of x3650 m5 and it was 8pin Female Port.

We tried to find a connector in Gilmore but we can’t find one.
Luckily we find such connector in Shopee,  I immediately order the item and i received it in less than a week. Item was shipped from Hongkong:

  • 2 pcs of  6pin (female) to 2 x 6+2 (Male Pin).

I checked the pins of 6+2pin and saw that it may work on the Video Card and on the Server.

Picture of the Server with RTX2080 and the 2 x  6+2pin connector.

I tried to power on the server and luckily the Video Card works 🙂

Here is the CPU-Z and GPU-Z details:

Note: This super computer is not mine 🙂
